jack carroll was born in 1930 in park ridge, illinois. he has resided in the
city of chicago for 50 years. he has worked at various times as an emergency
room orderly, a houseparent for physically handicapped children, and a paper-cutter.
he served in the army medical corps for 2 years in germany. his formal art training
consisted of 2 weeks at the american academy of art in chicago. he has two children,
becky, by his first wife sharon who died in 1977, and shane, by rachel, whom
he married in 1980. his favorite automobiles were his 1953 chevy and his 1957
cadillac. he has been making art for 56 years. the first public exhibition of
his work, “jack carroll: here and now,” took place in october, 2002,
at mn gallery in chicago, illinois.
